Twenty-four rooms, one terrace, and nobody else in the house.

We have never held a wedding alongside other guests and we do not intend to start. There are twenty-four rooms and one kitchen, and for the two or three nights you are here both of them are yours.

Weddings & Events

Twenty-four rooms, one terrace, and nobody else in the house.

Twenty-four rooms sit above one kitchen and one terrace. Divide that between a wedding and a couple on a quiet week and you have spoiled both of them.

So we do not divide it. The house closes to everybody else from the afternoon you arrive until the morning you leave.

No other guests

Nobody checks in while you are here and nobody wheels a suitcase past you on the morning of the wedding.

No shared rooms

The terrace, the loggia, both dining rooms and the cellars are yours from the hour you arrive. Nothing is held back.

No supplier list

Bring your own florist, your own band, your own celebrant. We will tell them where to park and what time the light goes.

No minimum spend

Only a minimum stay, which is two nights. What you spend after that is your business.

From €14,800 Two nights, the whole house Up to 48 staying 90 at the table

The spaces

Four places to put people, and what each of them holds.

These are the numbers we would give you on the telephone. They have not been rounded up for the website.
The place Seated Standing
The terrace One long table the width of the house, or nine round ones. Covered if it rains, with two days’ notice.
90Seated
140Standing
The dining room The original room, iron windows down the lake side. Where dinner goes when the weather has other ideas.
42Seated
70Standing
The east loggia Five arches, open on one side. Ceremonies happen here, and so does everything before dinner.
28Seated
50Standing
The cellars Nine metres down, twelve degrees, one long table under the vaults. The best room in the house after midnight.
16Seated
—Standing
Ninety at the table is the honest maximum for one seating on the terrace. We have done a hundred and four twice, and both times it was too many.

A wedding here

Two nights, and what tends to happen in them.

Nothing below is a package and none of it is compulsory. It is only what most people end up doing, in the order they end up doing it.

The house becomes yours Rooms ready, the gate code already working, and nobody checking out behind you.

17.00

The two hours after four Drinks on the terrace while the western light does the thing the house was built for.

Other gatherings

Not every reason to take a house is a wedding.

The house does not know what the occasion is. It only knows that it is shut to everybody else — which turns out to suit several other kinds of gathering just as well.

A birthday

The same house with fewer speeches in it. Most people take one night rather than two, and eat on the terrace both because it is easier and because nobody has ever regretted it.

From €8,400 One night Whole house

A board meeting

Twelve around the dining table, the spa open at six, and nobody within forty kilometres who wants anything from you. There is proper internet and one screen, which lives in a cupboard the rest of the year.

From €6,900 One night Ten rooms

A long lunch

Not everything needs beds. Ninety on the terrace, one seating, and everybody home before dark — which on this shore is later than people expect.

From €4,200 No rooms Ninety at the table

A wake

We have held four. There is no charge for the room the family sits in, and the kitchen will cook whatever the person liked best if somebody can tell us what it was.

How it works

Four steps, and the first one is an email.

There is no enquiry form on this page and no brochure to download. The whole thing is four steps long, and Paolo does most of them.

01

Write

One email to Paolo with the date you have in mind and roughly how many people. He will tell you straight away whether it is free.

Answered the same day

02

Come and see it

Two hours, usually a Tuesday, and no obligation of any kind. Lunch if you want it, and nobody will follow you round the house.

Within a week

03

Hold the date

Twenty per cent and it is yours. Nothing further is due until sixty days before, and the date does not move once it is written down.

Twenty per cent

04

Everything after

About eleven emails spread across a year. Paolo will also tell you when there is nothing to decide yet, which is most of them.

Until the morning

Talk to Paolo

He has done a hundred and nine of these, and remembers most of them.

“Everybody arrives worrying about the rain. It rains here on about one Saturday in nine, and there is a plan for it that nobody has ever complained about afterwards.”
